Stay at Home Still Life: Standing Still

The magic of the still life is that it can show us a new way of looking at the ordinary objects around us. A still life is a collection/arrangement of still/inanimate objects. Once these objects are placed into a specific arrangement and then captured in paint, ink, pastel, photography or any other medium, they take on a whole new meaning.

Learn More about Still Life

What is a still life? A still life is a collection/arrangement of still/inanimate objects. The objects an artist chooses to create a still life often have a special meaning, either on personal, cultural, societal, religious or philosophical levels. Still Life art can evoke a wide variety of emotions, provoke introspection or elicit a personal connection to a narrative. They carry a life beyond the ordinary.
The earliest known still life paintings were created by the Egyptians in the 15th century.http://www.arthistory.net/still-life/

We enjoy the work of Jonas Wood, and it offers a good example for added inspiration: “You could call [my work] a visual diary or even a personal history. I’m not going to paint something that doesn’t have anything to do with me. Of all of the possible things I could paint, the thing that interests me is something that I can get close enough to in order to paint it honestly.” —Jonas Wood
