The Department of Regional Art Workers was conceived as an intergenerational, interdisciplinary arts community providing access to the arts, in midtown, Kingston, NY. Our project space offers a print studio, work, event and, meeting space. The D.R.A.W. community currently includes, P.U.G.G. alumni artists, work study students, local artists and, community members interested in providing access to the Arts and quality community arts education.
"EFFECTS" WORKS, December 2017 KELLI SILLIK AND FRANK PESKO
The first Saturday in December P.U.G.G. hosted its first show in their Gallery at 624 Broadway. Ceramics and Drawings work by Kelli Sellik and Prints by Frank Pesko. It was a great success an opportunity for the group to share their skills at installation and opening events. Thanks to all of the community that helped renovate and attended.
Hands on Art
Led by professional teaching artists, Kingston, high school, Senior Seminar students attended four day-long workshops in WSW’s papermaking, screen-printing, and intaglio studios. This year’s session asked students to define the word research and consider how it applies to the artist’s career.

CHRISTIAN GALLO, "LOUIS SHOTWELLS' DAY OFF" NOV 4 - 28 @ PUGG
Consisting of photographs depicting images of abandoned places and lifelong friends, Gallo takes his influence from the pen name he created, Louis, who represents his creative energy. Louis Shotwell’s Day Off is a play on Gallo’s “Ferris Bueller” like behavior throughout his time attending Kingston High School. The exhibition serves as a memorandum of Gallo’s experiences and a retrospective of his life so far. Gallo graduated KHS in 2008 and attended Queens College to study photography.

The homeschool group, Leadership and Community Action, in Kingston NY worked with D.R.A.W. Teaching Artist and Program Director, JoAnna Ruisi, and Maria Farr, Girls Inc. of Ulster and Duchess counties program facilitator, looking at art as activism. The girls did screenprinting and wordplay as part of their session.

Teen Open Studio began in November. The D.R.A.W. opens its studio and gallery for students, once a week, after school. Journals and materials are available. Students can work independently or with in a mentor artist on a specific project.

"YARD SALE" AN INSTALLATION, ART WALK, SEPTEMBER 23-OCT 28, 2017
"Yard Sale" was a curated collection of charged objects, intriguing artifacts, crafted works, clues, sentimental treasures, etc etc. The room was a portrait and the pieces spoke to a nostalgic, quirky and intimate aesthetic sensibility. Items included a worn ‘ET’ VHS, soap skull, a polaroid titled, ‘Old Friends Bus Trip SF’, drawings, letters, zines and more!… Each with a backstory or sentimental connection.
Orange price stickers adorn the belongings, blurring the line between intimacy and consumer culture.

Frank Pesko is an Alumni of KHS and SUNY Purchase. Frank has a BFA in printmaking and volunteered to teach a free class in relief printing. Our first Saturday workshops.

Community Day, 2017
The Pop Up Gallery Group collaborated with Kingston High School Chemistry for Artist and Drawing and Painting students, to create the “Work Of Art”, a 20’ cyanotype mural exploring the depth of creative work that goes on everyday in midtown, Kingston. The final exposure, took place during Community Day, at the Broadway Commons, 2017.

LIFE OF MOA EXHIBITION, JUNE 17TH 2017 FROM ADRIELLE FARR
While at KHS, Adrielle was actively involved in the art and literature magazine, Reason and Rhyme, which encouraged communal creative engagement. Adrielle received her BFA in Fine Art from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
“Life of Moa” featured a collection of murals hand-painted directly on the gallery walls. The murals depict the colorful world of the fantastical prophet Moa, and was created with the assistance of the Kingston High School students. Traditional mythological motifs from various cultures are subverted into the artist's bold and graphic style of illustration.

KHS Ninth Annual Senior Seminar Thesis Show, 2017
P.U.G.G. hosted the 9th annual, KHS Senior Seminar Thesis Show and opening, June 3rd, from 4-7pm. Each student worked independently, developing a body of work that explored a personal interest with in the visual arts. 13 students exhibited. illustration, printmaking, painting, mixed media, photography and drawing. The ideas represented were as diverse as the students.

KINGSTON MEDIA ARTS SHOW, MAY 7TH, 2017
P.U.G.G. hosted the KHS Media Arts Awards. Students received their awards at the yearly media arts conference, hosted in Westchester, earlier in the year. Students showed digital and silver photography.

Rebecca graduated from KHS in 2011. She studied Painting at SUNY New Paltz, graduation in January 2016. The show includes imaginary landscapes in oil and watercolor. Rebecca is exploring psychological space. She is interested in the space between the painting and the viewer.
The show consisted of landscapes in oil paint, and ethereal watercolors. “Having struggled with depression and anxiety; these illnesses are an integral part of my work, whether in the catharsis of the physical act of painting a landscape and the dualities within, or in the analysis of these issues in my character studies.”

"TOP SECRET" DRAWINGS AND METAL BOOKS BY MATTHEW PLEVA, FEBRUARY 4TH - FEBRUARY 28TH, 2017
A show of the work of Matthew Pleva, a 1993 graduate of Kingston High School. Mr. Pleva received his BFA from SUNY Purchase and currently has a small shop in Uptown, Kingston, NY, where he sells his drawings, constructions and Jewelry. He chose to show work he had done in Amsterdam, as part of his senior thesis show at Purchase College, large scale drawing and metal books.

PUGG and volunteers renovated 624 Broadway and created their first gallery space. Thanks to the generosity of Ed Kang, the owner of the building, the students have a space to engage with community. Many volunteers helped with painting, cleaning, construction and moral support.

“POLLINATION" 100 Flowers & Optimistic ideas by 100 Students, October 2016
Kingston High School students collaborated with PUGG and Uncle Riley Johndonnell to to create a community garden of flowers; On the back, they wrote their optimistic ideas for a brighter Mid-Town, Kingston. These ideas were shared with Mayor Steve Noble, and he was invited to a discussion on how students may become involved in making these ideas realities.
The opening took place Oct 27th, to coincide with the official ribbon cutting for the Broadway Commons and formal recognition of the Mid Town Arts District (M.A.D.).
