Why are we Marking Time?
12th Annual Draw-A-Thon - Antenna, New Orleans
LOOKING FORWARD: A Draw-a-Thon!
While we’re physically distancing, sheltering at home, washing our hands and connecting online, we are imagining a time when we will all be in the same room to creatively play and make art. In sweet anticipation of that time, we are planning our first Draw-a-Thon and you are invited!
What is a Draw-a-Thon?
A Draw-a-Thon is a drawing marathon of unbridled collaborative creativity.
Our Draw-a-Thon will be an all-day community event in a public space, and it will be open to people of all ages and every skill level. Everyone who comes to this community art-making experiment will have the freedom to draw on every surface, make anything and co-create with everyone else.
For many years, art schools nationwide have hosted Draw-a-Thons to gather large groups of artists and other community members together for extended periods of time. We’re especially inspired by one example—the New Orleans art organization Antenna’s 24-hour long Draw-a-Thon—which drew inspiration from their response to the city’s devastation during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Antenna is now celebrating its 15th annual Draw-a-Thon!
Once we come out on the other side of this current global pandemic, we will host a Draw-a-Thon in Kingston to celebrate coming together again and to commemorate our shared experiences during these difficult days and nights.
What do you need to do to prepare for our Kingston Draw-a-Thon?
Nothing—except sign up for our mailing list. We’ll send you an invitation once we have a date and location!
In the meantime…
you can play and make art with us now! We hope our Marking Time: Creativity at Play project will help you keep your art chops up, free your creative mojo, open your hearts, stoke your imagination, and inspire you!
