In the latest D.R.A.W. news, we have acquired a new space in the old Pajama Factory across the street. It’s much larger than our current space, and it will make for an incredible printing studio right here in Kingston. Our presses along with a hefty amount of different other tools and mediums are all going to be moved over. At current, MAD board member Jason Mones and volunteering PUGG members are working on cleaning and sprucing up the new space. The building is being put into shape by our people, for use by our people. Once we have everything sorted and move the bulk of our good into the new space, we’ll make it the base of operations for classes and workshops in the future, as well as art-making in general. The old space at Energy Square will become more of a gallery space.
In honor of having this printing studio for the community of Kingston, the D.R.A.W. is eligible to receive the printing press that Ben Wigfall owned when he ran Communications Village, a community printing studio that I have come to be very familiar with. We are working on moving that legendary press into our own space. We are also thinking about a name for the new space, which will likely be something in respects to Communications Village which has been a grand inspiration. I’m looking forward to seeing the D.R.A.W. stretch its reach further than ever before.
